Conductor Selection Timeline
September 30, 2007 - deadline for nominations for 2009 conductors
October 30, 2007 - Conductor Selection Committee Chairs receive the
nominations for 2009 conductors and contact their fellow committee
chairs (who are the most recent past conductor and the upcoming
conductor)
November 15, 2007 - Nomination notifications are sent to nominees
requesting a simple statement of their interest in the process.
Nominees should state that:

Yes, they would like to be considered and will submit a prospective
program for review

No,
they do not want to conduct but the Committee should keep their name
on file for future consideration

No,
they do not want to conduct and they do not wish to be considered in
the future
February 1, 2008 - Deadline for Conductor Candidate Responses -
Conductors who accept nomination must submit the following items by this
date:

Resume of professional work supporting
their worthiness as a conductor
-
Video or audio tape sample reflecting
their work with their own choral groups

Prospective program they would like to
conduct (NOTE: at least 50% of this program must be used as part of
their final submission to the Board of Directors if they are
selected to conduct)
March 2008 - Conductor Selection Committees meet and make
recommendations to the Executive Board of Directors. The SJCDA
President functions as a non-voting (ex-officio) member of these three
committees. All materials should be returned to the candidates at the
conclusion of this process by the Committee Chair.
April 2008 - SJCDA Executive Board votes on recommendations. The
President contacts the candidates regarding the final selection for
conductor.
June
2008 - The SJCDA Executive Board meets with the conductors to review
their programs
September 2008 - Conductors lead the Fall General Membership Meeting
Reading Session of their programs
October 1, 2008 - Conductors submit practice tapes to the SJCDA
Coordinator for duplication and distribution
November 2008 - Jr/Sr Conductors select their Choirs at the Region
III Choral Auditions
December 2008 - Jr/Sr Conductors lead the first rehearsal of their
Region III Choirs
January 2009 - Jr/Sr Conductors lead 3 more rehearsals of their
Choirs
February 2009 - Jr/Sr Conductors lead their final rehearsal and
conduct the two concerts
March 2009 - Elementary Conductor leads a full day rehearsal
followed by the concert
Please Note: Conductors are asked to server on the subsequent Conductor
Selection Committees for a period of 3 years following their service as
a region conductor. This is not a requirement for conductors outside of
the Region III area. In the 3rd year, the Board requests that the
Conductor serve as Committee Chair.
