Conductor Requirements
If selected to
conduct one of the Region III SJCDA Choirs, conductors are required to
adhere to the following procedures:
-
Submit a final program to the SJCDA Board of
Directors in June of the year prior to when they will conduct. Any
selections which are out of print must be accompanied by written,
certified approval from a publishing agency regarding terms of use,
performance, and duplication (selections will not be ordered or
performed without written consent of the publisher). Conductors
must bring alternate selections to the meeting. Final programs must
be composed of at least 50% of the selections originally submitted
to the conductor selection committee.
-
Provide all relevant information necessary for SJCDA
to order approved music. SJCDA will handle the purchase and
distribution of the music to the region choirs, providing a copy of
the music to the conductor and accompanist. The order will be
placed in July of the year prior to their concert. NOTE: Jr/Sr
conductors are required to review combined finale selections prior
to the board meeting so a final mutually agreed-upon piece may be
brought before the board.
-
Lead a brief reading session at the Fall General
Membership Meeting with the assistance of their chosen accompanist.
-
Prepare a practice tape for their respective chorus.
SJCDA will arrange duplication and distribution.
-
Attend the Region III SJCDA Choral Auditions and
select their chorus on that date (Jr/Sr only).
-
Plan and conduct all rehearsals and concerts for
their Region III Chorus, as dictated by the SJCDA calendar, in
cooperation with the Chorus Manager and Festival Coordinator.
-
At the conclusion of each Jr/Sr rehearsal, the
conductor must provide a brief overview or summary of what they have
taught that day. This will enable the Coordinator to test absent
students at the next rehearsal.
Each Conductor is asked to serve on their respective
Conductor Selection Committee beginning in March immediately after they
conduct. This will continue for a total of 3 years, with the conductor
serving as Committee Chair in their third and final year on the
Committee. NOTE: this is optional for conductors living outside the
Region III area.
